In the Davis Cup final, the second singles match came to an abrupt halt when a spectator fell ill in the stands. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was in the midst of a crucial point against Jaume Munar when the interruption occurred.
Munar had dominated the first set 6-1 and was leading in the second set when Cobolli had a chance to break back. However, play was paused as the medical team attended to the unwell spectator, causing both players to retreat to their benches.
Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his prompt response to the situation, noting the swift reaction of the crowd in alerting the player. Meanwhile, umpire Marijana Veljovic and Italian captain Filippo Volandri provided guidance during the break in play.
As the spectator was escorted out of the stands, Parmar mentioned a potential delay in play for their safe removal. The brief pause lasted approximately ten minutes before Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve and even the score in the second set.
Italy held a 1-0 advantage in the singles matches, with Matteo Berrettini securing a victory over Pablo Carreno Busta. A win for Cobolli could potentially secure Italy’s third consecutive tournament win, a feat not achieved since 1972 by the USA.
Alternatively, a victory for Munar would set up a crucial doubles round to decide the outcome of the final. Both teams were missing key players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who had withdrawn before the final began.
