“PayPal Unveils Debit & Credit Cards with Loyalty Program”

PayPal is introducing its inaugural debit and credit cards, along with a novel loyalty program. These cards will be available in both physical and digital formats, enabling consumers to utilize their PayPal wallet for in-store purchases for the first time.

The new PayPal debit card will be directly linked to the user’s PayPal wallet and one of their bank accounts. In case the PayPal wallet lacks funds, the purchase amount will be deducted from the linked bank account. PayPal ensures that the debit card can be used globally without any transaction fees, while the credit card can be used wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Simultaneously, PayPal is launching a loyalty scheme where customers can accumulate points from both online and in-store transactions. Customers earn one point for every £10 spent, and upon reaching 1,000 points, they receive a £10 credit to use with their PayPal account. Additionally, shoppers earn ten points per £10 spent using the PayPal debit card.

The loyalty program consists of three tiers: Blue, Gold, and Black. Gold and Black tier members receive points valued up to 50% more at checkout, exclusive access to VIP experiences, and other benefits. The program is compatible with other loyalty schemes, allowing users to stack and earn PayPal+ points alongside other loyalty points. Signing up for PayPal+ is free of charge.

Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, expressed enthusiasm about this new venture, stating that it marks a significant milestone for PayPal in the UK. He highlighted the customer-centric approach taken to revamp products, offering a comprehensive payment solution for online and in-store transactions. Tamer El‑Emary, General Manager of PayPal UK, emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing the consumer experience, aiming to bring the convenience and rewards of PayPal online shopping to brick-and-mortar stores.

The initiative reflects PayPal’s commitment to British consumers, businesses, and communities, focusing on providing innovative payment solutions that cater to everyday needs and preferences. The introduction of PayPal+ aims to redefine the concept of value in payment transactions, offering a seamless, secure, and rewarding payment experience for users.
