“Over 1M Missing Out on Up to £441 Monthly Benefit”

An estimated 1.1 million individuals may be overlooking the opportunity to claim Attendance Allowance, a monthly benefit that can reach up to £441. These statistics come from Policy in Practice, who are encouraging individuals to explore potential entitlements to extra assistance. Attendance Allowance is granted to individuals above state pension age who require additional support or supervision due to a disability or illness.

Eligibility for this allowance extends to those facing prolonged challenges or discomfort in performing daily tasks, with a condition necessitating assistance for at least six months. The benefit amounts to £73.90 per week if assistance or supervision is needed during the day or at night, increasing to £110.40 per week if support is required around the clock or during end-of-life stages.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) disburses Attendance Allowance every four weeks, with individuals potentially receiving £295.60 or £441.60 per payment cycle. Notably, one does not need a caregiver to qualify for this benefit. Changes in personal circumstances should be promptly reported to the DWP to ensure accurate benefit disbursement.

Attendance Allowance is not means-tested, allowing recipients to maintain unlimited savings while enjoying a tax-free status and exemption from benefit caps. Furthermore, receipt of other benefits may increase following the approval of Attendance Allowance. Individuals already receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) are ineligible for Attendance Allowance.

In Scotland, Attendance Allowance has been substituted with Pension Age Disability Payment. Claiming Attendance Allowance involves submitting a printed claim form or contacting the Attendance Allowance helpline for assistance. When completing the form, applicants must detail how their health condition or disability impacts their daily life and provide supporting documentation like GP letters or care plans.

Some applicants may undergo assessments before receiving Attendance Allowance, except for terminally ill individuals who qualify for immediate higher-rate benefits.
