The state of Oregon in the US recently experienced a magnitude 6 earthquake, as confirmed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake was reported at 7:25 pm local time on Thursday, January 15, occurring 183 miles from Bandon, Oregon.
Residents living along the Oregon coastline reported feeling tremors, but fortunately, no significant structural damage has been reported. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 295 km west of Bandon, Oregon, with a depth of approximately 10 km below the earth’s surface, according to the USGS.
Despite the seismic activity, the USGS has not issued a tsunami warning at this time. However, they have stated that there is a possibility of aftershocks being felt in the region over the next week.
Following the earthquake confirmation, Oregon residents have taken to social media to share their experiences of the quake. While some, like a user in the vicinity of the Cascades, where Kings County meets Mount Rainier National Park, did not feel anything, others in locations such as Newberg and Eugene reported feeling the shaking.
