“Oldest Banksy Artwork for Sale in Bristol”

The oldest known artwork by the renowned artist Banksy could soon be available for purchase as the building it embellishes in Bristol is preparing to be sold. The property, owned by Wellspring Settlement, functions as a vital community hub that has been facing financial difficulties, leading to the decision to put it on the market. This building, once the ‘Dug Out’ youth club where Banksy frequented in his early days, holds historical significance.

Wellspring Settlement plays a pivotal role in the Barton Hill neighborhood, offering various services such as baby and toddler play sessions, a food club, financial guidance, and social gatherings for adults. Additionally, the center supports youth programs and hosts local charities and groups.

Having nurtured a young Banksy before he rose to fame as the world’s most famous anonymous artist, the community center’s sale would mark the end of a space that has been integral to Bristol’s youth. The current building in Barton Hill is home to a local amateur boxing club, which will need to find a new location once the property changes ownership.

In a heartfelt message to the Barton Hill residents, Wellspring openly shared their financial challenges. Despite the boxing club’s positive impact on the community, the expenses of maintaining the building exceed the rent paid by the club. Therefore, the trustees have decided to sell the property to secure the organization’s financial future.

The community has a strong attachment to the building, and Wellspring reassures that they are committed to supporting the boxing club during the transition. Efforts are underway to find suitable alternative premises for the club to continue serving the local youth. While the process may present challenges, the goal is to ensure a sustainable future for both the charity and the boxing club, delivering positive outcomes for the community.
