O2, part of Virgin Media in the UK, is bringing holiday joy to millions of customers this December by generously adding an extra 10GB of mobile data to their plans at no cost. This bonus data boost, available to all Pay Monthly customers except those on Unlimited plans or business tariffs, will be automatically applied to eligible users’ accounts and the MyO2 app during the month.
The additional 10GB data can be used without any restrictions, allowing customers to stream movies, share photos, or engage in video calls on platforms like FaceTime. Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized that this gesture aims to facilitate connections with loved ones during the festive season.
The offer is a way for O2 to express gratitude to its customers, enabling them to enjoy activities such as streaming festive films, gaming, and video calling. According to O2, the extra data could support approximately 20 hours of video calls, 2,000 streamed songs, or roughly four and a half hours of HD content on platforms like Netflix or Disney+.
This giveaway aligns with the findings of Ofcom’s Connected Nations report, reflecting a 10% increase in mobile data consumption by UK smartphone users in 2025 compared to the previous year, totaling a massive 1.2 billion GB per month. To put this into perspective, it’s akin to streaming 400 million HD football matches, depending on one’s perspective.
