Jeffrey Epstein spent his final days in fear and distress while in his prison cell, according to recently disclosed information. Following an unsuccessful suicide attempt, the convicted sex offender expressed concerns about returning to his cell, as revealed in newly released Department of Justice records. Epstein ultimately took his own life in the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Correction Center in New York City on August 10, 2019.
The documents also raise doubts about the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death. Despite his brother Mark’s tip to the FBI suggesting foul play, investigations concluded that Epstein died by suicide through hanging.
In psychiatric evaluations shortly before his death, Epstein appeared despondent and likened himself to the character Rain Man from the movie starring Dustin Hoffman.
Details emerged that Epstein had previously tried to end his life on July 23, 2019. He reported waking up with neck marks and expressed anxiety about returning to the unit where the incident occurred, citing sleep deprivation due to noise.
Medical records indicated that Epstein received treatment for neck and knee injuries. His cellmate at the time, Nicholas Tartaglione, attempted to revive him and was later cleared of any involvement in the death.
While Epstein’s brother Mark raised suspicions of foul play in a tip to the FBI in February 2023, no evidence supporting murder has been found.
The release of these extensive files follows public demands for transparency in the US government’s investigations into Epstein’s activities.
