A 33-year-old music teacher who is pregnant has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child under 16. Naomi Tekea Craig, who is married, faces charges including sexual penetration of a minor aged between 13 and 16, possession of child exploitation material, and engaging in persistent sexual behavior with a child under 16. The incidents are said to have taken place between 2024 and 2025.
Craig was working as a music instructor at the Fredrick Irwin Anglican School when the alleged offenses occurred. She was reportedly well-liked by both parents and students at the school. Police are conducting an investigation into the incidents, which took place in Mandurah, south of Perth, Western Australia. The school’s principal, Tracey Gray, informed parents in a letter that Craig had been taken into custody.
Authorities assured parents that there is no reason to be concerned about the safety of other students at the school. The police emphasized their commitment to protecting children and providing support for victims of such crimes. Craig is scheduled to appear in court on January 27.
Fredrick Irwin Anglican School offers a music program for eighth-grade students and charges $8,320 (£4,153) annually for older students. According to reports, Craig was on maternity leave when she was arrested. A former classmate described her as a wonderful music teacher and a friendly individual, expressing shock at the news.
