Britain’s intelligence chief has raised concerns stating there is no proof that Vladimir Putin is interested in negotiating peace in Ukraine. Sir Richard Moore, the head of MI6, expressed doubts about Putin’s intentions, describing him as prolonging the conflict instead of seeking a resolution. Despite extensive talks led by the US and a meeting between Donald Trump and Putin, a peace agreement remains elusive even as the four-year mark since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches.
Sir Richard, who is set to step down from his position after five years, emphasized that Putin’s ambitions have exceeded his capabilities. The MI6 chief accused Putin of deceiving the world and his own people about the inevitability of Russian victory in Ukraine. He criticized Putin for jeopardizing Russia’s future for personal gain and distorting historical facts, leading to a decline in the country’s prospects.
In a bold move, MI6 launched a dark web platform called “Silent Courier” to attract potential intelligence sources, especially from Russia. Sir Richard extended an invitation to individuals in Russia with valuable information to reach out to MI6. Additionally, it was announced that Blaise Metreweli will become the first female head of the Secret Intelligence Service, succeeding Sir Richard.
Trump, during his recent visit to the UK, expressed disappointment in Putin for not fulfilling his promises to resolve the conflict. Trump claimed he had successfully resolved seven other conflicts but found the Russia-Ukraine situation more challenging than anticipated due to Putin’s actions.
Recent reports indicate ongoing attacks by Moscow on Ukraine, including the use of drones, glide bombs, and missiles. Ukrainian forces have retaliated with their own long-range drones targeting critical Russian installations. The escalating violence has resulted in damage to key facilities in Russia, including oil refineries and depots.
