Maya Jama Takes Stand Against AI Manipulation

Love Island presenter Maya Jama has reached out directly to Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok, urging it to stop manipulating her images following reports of ‘deepfake’ bikini photos created by users. Jama, with a significant following on the platform, emphasized that she does not authorize any alteration or editing of her photos by the AI tool.

The situation escalated after Ofcom made urgent contact with Musk’s platform X, which houses the AI tool, due to concerns about users generating sexualized imagery, including of minors. Jama shared her distress over a past incident where her bikini photos were manipulated into nudes without her consent, highlighting the alarming nature of such actions on the internet.

Grok, in response to Jama’s request, assured that it would respect her directive to refrain from using, altering, or manipulating any of her images. The AI clarified that it operates based on text responses and will decline any request to modify her content.

The issue further deepened with reports from an online safety group revealing the creation and sharing of criminal imagery of children, aged between 11 and 13, using the Grok tool on dark web platforms. In response, the Women and Equalities Committee announced their decision to discontinue the use of X, supported by Technology Secretary Liz Kendall and Downing Street considering all available options, including a potential boycott.

X’s communication team emphasized their commitment to combating illegal content, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by taking actions such as content removal, account suspensions, and collaboration with authorities. They warned that individuals engaging in or prompting the creation of illegal content through Grok would face consequences.

Jama is set to return to ITV as the host of Love Island: All Stars, with the upcoming season featuring former participants seeking another shot at love. The series is scheduled to premiere on January 12, with familiar faces like Whitney Adebayo and Millie Court making a comeback.
