Streaming premium content for free has gained significant popularity in recent times. With financial constraints affecting many households, an increasing number of people are turning to unauthorized platforms that offer unrestricted access to sports and movies without the usual subscription fees.
The allure of accessing content like Premier League and F1 without cost is appealing, but the trend of abandoning official channels has not gone unnoticed by authorities and content providers.
In a concerted effort to combat unpaid streaming, a major crackdown has recently led to the permanent closure of a significant streaming platform. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), in collaboration with Egyptian authorities, announced the dismantling of a notorious piracy network.
Streameast, a platform known for providing access to events such as Premier League, is estimated to have attracted over 1.6 billion visits in the past year alone.
In addition to premier football, F1, MMA, and Moto GP coverage, Streameast also facilitated access to sport-specific piracy sites for American sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB.
Charles Rivkin, Chairman of ACE and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), hailed the takedown of the illicit platform as a significant milestone in the fight against digital piracy. The action aims to protect the interests of sports leagues, entertainment companies, and fans worldwide.
Site traffic to the platform primarily originated from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Philippines, and Germany. Users of the platform will now find themselves blocked from accessing content.
Cameron Andrews, Legal Director of Anti-Piracy for beIN MEDIA GROUP, emphasized the detrimental impact of piracy on the sports economy and expressed support for ACE’s enforcement actions. International cooperation and robust enforcement efforts have proven effective in dismantling illegal networks.
The successful operation underscores the commitment to combat criminal piracy activities globally, with beIN MEDIA GROUP standing alongside ACE in their ongoing efforts to eliminate piracy networks wherever they operate.
