The main suspect linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been relocated to temporary housing following his release from prison.
Christian Brueckner, a convicted rapist who refutes any involvement, officially stated his homelessness status in a German town. The town’s spokesperson informed the Mirror that he registered as homeless and was provided with accommodation for safety reasons. Brueckner was seen leaving Sehnde prison near Hanover after serving a seven-year sentence for assaulting a pensioner.
Photographs captured him heading towards a McDonald’s restaurant, located next to a store selling baby and toddler clothing. He was accompanied by his lawyer, Friedrich Fuelscher, whose offices are based in Kiel.
Brueckner was identified as the primary suspect by German prosecutors in June 2020. Despite their claim of having evidence implicating him in the abduction and presumed murder of Madeleine, he has not been formally charged.
As part of his release conditions, Brueckner is required to wear an ankle monitor for five years and could be sent back to prison if he violates any terms, such as changing residences without notifying probation authorities. He is due to appear in court next month in Oldenburg to face charges of insulting a prison officer, potentially resulting in a fine.
Although extensive police inquiries have been conducted, there has been no significant progress in the case against Brueckner regarding Madeleine’s disappearance. He was acquitted in October of various sexual offenses he was accused of committing in Portugal. Prosecutors are awaiting the decision on an appeal lodged at Germany’s Federal Court of Justice.
At the time of Madeleine’s disappearance from the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz while her parents were dining at a nearby restaurant, Brueckner was residing in a rundown farmhouse. He maintains his innocence in relation to the case.
