After being apprehended by American special forces from his residence in Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro has unexpectedly become a trending fashion figure.
The Venezuelan leader was taken into custody by the US elite Delta Force in a covert operation and transported to the United States. Following his capture, a photo was released showing Maduro in US custody aboard the USS Iwo Jima, sporting a blindfold, ear protection, and a Nike Tech tracksuit.
Subsequently, his Nike tracksuit swiftly sold out shortly after President Donald Trump shared the image on Truth Social. The surge in demand for the £109.99 Nike Tech fleece and the £89.99 matching bottoms, typically favored by athletes and musicians, has led to the ensemble being dubbed the ‘Maduro fit’.
An AI-generated meme depicting the politician in the tracksuit with the Nike slogan ‘Just Do It’ was circulated online, sparking a viral trend as people humorously commented on the attire selection. Social media users jokingly remarked on Maduro’s unexpected Nike tracksuit appearance, adding to the online buzz.
Despite his initial stylish outfit, Maduro was later spotted in New York clad in all-black attire with sandals and socks, and subsequently in orange prison overalls.
Accompanied by his wife Cilia Flores, the president appeared in court where he defiantly asserted his innocence, proclaiming his innocence and his status as the country’s leader. During the arraignment hearing, the judge outlined the charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy, which also implicated Cilia Flores and others.
The indictment against Mr. Maduro also includes charges of possession of machine guns and destructive devices, along with conspiracy to possess such weapons. Additionally, it was disclosed that President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were apprehended in a nighttime US military operation, labeled as “dark and deadly” by President Trump, which resulted in casualties among both civilians and military personnel, as revealed by a senior Venezuelan official.
