Lando Norris was overcome with emotion as he clinched his first F1 world championship title. Securing third place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Norris edged out Max Verstappen by a slim two-point margin to claim the prestigious crown.
The British driver, now the 35th world champion in F1 history, expressed his joy and relief at winning the championship after a period of uncertainty. Crossing the finish line, Norris tearfully thanked his team on the McLaren radio, acknowledging their role in fulfilling his dreams.
McLaren team principal Zak Brown praised Norris and his teammate Oscar for their outstanding driving, celebrating their collective achievement. Norris had held a 12-point lead over Verstappen entering the Abu Dhabi race, with the latter winning the final three races of the season but falling short of securing his fifth title.
Despite facing a stewards’ inquiry for an off-road maneuver during an overtake, Norris escaped punishment, allowing him to maintain his championship charge. Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi race, but Norris’ solid performance secured his title, with teammate Piastri coming in second and Norris finishing ahead of Leclerc in fourth place.
