Terry Cottle tragically took his own life at the young age of 33, leaving behind his grieving widow and young children. Despite the heartache of his passing, Terry’s heart was donated to save another man’s life through a transplant. Surprisingly, 13 years later, the recipient of Terry’s heart also died by suicide in a similar manner.
Terry, already married, met Cheryl, his second wife, and left his first wife to be with her. Their marriage started off happily as Terry adopted Cheryl’s children from a previous marriage, and they had a child together. Terry, who had left school without graduating, worked in real estate but faced challenges as he maintained contact with his ex-wife without Cheryl’s knowledge.
After a heated argument in March 1995, Terry tragically took his own life. His heart was transplanted into Sonny Graham, who was suffering from congestive heart failure. Graham, grateful for the transplant, developed a new fondness for beer and hot dogs, Terry’s favorite food. He began corresponding with Cheryl, Terry’s widow, and their connection deepened, leading to Graham leaving his wife of 38 years to be with Cheryl.
Despite initial reservations from Cheryl, she eventually married Graham after his divorce. Their blended family included six children and six grandchildren from their previous marriages. Graham retired and they lived happily until his sudden death in 2008 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Graham’s financial mismanagement left Cheryl with debts, highlighting the complex aftermath of their unusual love story.
