Google Introduces Option to Change Gmail Email Address

Millions of Gmail users are set to have the option to change their email address to a new one. Google had previously hinted at this update, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. In a recent update on its Gmail blog page, Google confirmed that users can change their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address with the same domain.

This change could be beneficial for users who wish to update their username or have experienced changes in their circumstances. However, Google emphasized that the ability to change the email address is gradually being made available to all users and may not be accessible to everyone immediately.

The new system will allow both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one. Google reassured users that their account data, including photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address, will remain unaffected.

To check if you can switch to a new Gmail address without losing your emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you desire, ensuring it has not been used before.
– Click on Change email, then confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Once done, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will be retained as an alternate email.
