A surprising turn of events has unfolded in the tragic deaths of Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe, with Monique’s former spouse, Michael McKee, being apprehended and accused of their murders. The lifeless bodies of Monique, aged 39, and Spencer, aged 37, were discovered in their residence on December 30. Colleagues grew concerned when Spencer failed to show up for work, prompting them to visit the couple’s home, where they were met with a disturbing scene. Despite the children being unharmed, it was evident that the parents had been viciously killed in front of them. Spencer had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique had been shot at least once in the chest.
Following the investigation, authorities ruled out the possibility of a murder-suicide and released footage of a suspicious individual near the Tepes’ residence. This person of interest was captured on camera in the vicinity wearing specific clothing. On January 10, McKee was taken into custody and charged with the murders after being identified as a suspect through surveillance footage from the Columbus neighborhood in Ohio. Further evidence pinpointed McKee’s whereabouts to Rockford, approximately 79 miles northwest of Chicago.
McKee, who pleaded not guilty in court, was formerly married to Monique for nearly two years, from 2015 to 2017. The divorce decree indicated that Monique received the divorce on the grounds of incompatibility, with McKee being granted their former marital home in Virginia. The couple had no children together, and there was no spousal support awarded.
Expressing disbelief at the unfolding events, one of McKee’s neighbors, Gera-Lind Kolarik, shared her shock at the situation, stating that McKee did not seem capable of such actions. The community was left reeling from the tragedy, especially considering the impact on the children left behind.
In response to McKee’s arrest, the Tepe family released a statement expressing their gratitude towards the authorities for their efforts in seeking justice for Monique and Spencer. They acknowledged the support from the community and vowed to continue honoring the memory of the deceased couple while safeguarding and cherishing the well-being of their children.
