“Cruise Lines Crack Down on Banned Items and Behavior”

Exploring the world on a cruise offers a unique experience, distinct from a typical hotel stay. To ensure a smooth sailing, passengers must adhere to cruise etiquette rules and comply with safety regulations due to the close quarters aboard these massive floating resorts.

Recently, several cruise lines have imposed bans on various travel items for safety reasons or to deter disruptive behavior. It is advisable for passengers planning a cruise to verify with their specific cruise line the list of items that are prohibited on board.

Some common items that have been banned in recent times include personal WiFi devices like Starlink Mini, which passengers have attempted to bring on board to avoid expensive onboard WiFi charges. However, major cruise companies such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian have prohibited the use of passenger-owned Starlink devices, citing potential interference with the ship’s systems.

In addition, certain passengers have tried to circumvent the limitation of using WiFi on only one device by bringing routers on board to connect multiple devices. Nevertheless, cruise lines are cracking down on this practice due to cybersecurity concerns and reports of confiscated devices.

One peculiar prohibition was introduced by Carnival Cruises in response to a dance trend associated with the song “Boots on the Ground” by 803Fresh. This viral TikTok dance involving a paper clack fan was banned from nightclubs and indoor dance floors on Carnival cruises due to safety considerations, although it is still permitted in other areas like decks.

Moreover, several cruise lines have implemented bans on Bluetooth speakers to prevent noise disturbances, annoyance to fellow passengers, and potential obstruction of important announcements. Notable cruise operators like Celebrity, Carnival, and MSC have enforced restrictions on the use of Bluetooth speakers.

According to reports from Cruise Passenger, Carnival has prohibited the presence of upside-down pineapples on their cruises, which are often used as a signal for swinging activities. Carnival’s guidelines also specify that any decorations on stateroom doors should not contain offensive messages, nudity, profanity, or sexual implications.
