Shortly after noon on September 10 in the United States, Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative figure, was speaking at an event held at Utah Valley University with an audience of over 3,000 people.
During his speech, a sudden loud noise akin to a firework startled the crowd as the 31-year-old Kirk was seen lurching forward and collapsing, blood flowing from his neck. Tragically, he was shot from a distance, leading to chaos among the attendees. Despite being swiftly taken to the hospital, Kirk succumbed to his injuries.
Charlie Kirk, originally from Chicago, was the founder of Turning Point USA, a significant nonprofit organization advocating conservative ideals on college and high school campuses. Known for his conservative stance on various issues including women’s rights and LGBTQ+ matters, Kirk often engaged in debates with students through his “Prove Me Wrong” events.
While discussing gun violence in the US during the event, Kirk was asked about mass shootings in America over the past decade. Before he could respond, he was shot in the neck, causing panic among the audience. Witnesses described the harrowing scene as Kirk collapsed and blood spilled, prompting people to take cover.
Authorities are treating the incident as an assassination, with the perpetrator still at large. Police are actively searching for a suspect, while previous individuals detained in connection with the shooting have been released after being cleared of involvement.
Eyewitnesses reported that the shooter, dressed in dark attire, fired from a building overlooking the event venue. Law enforcement sources indicated that the shots were fired from the Losee Centre, a location on the campus providing student services.
Photographs circulating online suggest the suspect fired from the roof, with some images showing a sniper positioned on top of the building. The investigation into Kirk’s tragic death remains ongoing.
