A significant change is imminent for certain households that rely on BT TV for streaming content online. An alert has been issued for UK residents using specific BT TV set-top boxes as they are set to lose support for the popular Netflix application. Netflix is enhancing its service, rendering older hardware incompatible with the upgrades.
The affected devices include the BT TV Recordable Box (G4) and the TV Box (Z4). BT explained that the Netflix app update aims to provide an enhanced user experience, leading to the discontinuation of support for these boxes.
Starting from March 4, 2026, customers using the aforementioned boxes will no longer have access to Netflix content like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they switch to newer models. BT confirmed that newer BT TV models will not encounter the Netflix block.
The company assured customers that their Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected, allowing continued access on supported devices. Individuals using the impacted boxes are encouraged to contact BT to explore upgrading to a more recent model.
Additionally, Netflix will still be accessible through alternative devices such as smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
