“British Citizens Embrace Expatriation Trend to Canada”

A growing number of British citizens are opting to sell their homes and move abroad for a fresh start. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), approximately 639,000 people left the UK in 2023, marking a nearly 10% increase in expatriation since the previous year.

One family, Jack Masterson, 36, and Natalie, 35, made the decision to relocate from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, to a lively city in Canada. Jack, a videographer, revealed that the idea of moving overseas had been lingering in their minds for some time until they finally took the leap.

With Natalie’s background as a former NHS nurse, the Masterson family seized the opportunity to move to Canada under the Express Entry visa program, which was established in 2023 to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country. This visa category has seen a surge in interest from Brits looking to start anew in Canada.

The Mastersons settled in North Vancouver, where they found a growing community of British expats. Jack shared that while they miss certain aspects of British culture, such as traditional pubs, they have embraced the Canadian lifestyle and the stunning natural surroundings.

Despite facing higher prices for everyday items like bread in Canada compared to the UK, Jack emphasized that the move has been rewarding. He highlighted the beauty of Vancouver, the warmth of the people, and the abundance of outdoor activities that have enriched their lives.

Relocation expert Simon Hood echoed Jack’s sentiments, noting that while Canada is facing its own economic challenges, many individuals are drawn to the country for reasons beyond affordability, seeking a different quality of life and experiences that go beyond financial considerations.
