“British Airways Announces Reward Flight Price Increase”

British Airways has revealed a significant change that will impact its loyal customers in the lead-up to Christmas and before the busiest travel days. Starting from Monday, December 15, 2025, the airline confirmed that the price of Reward Flights, which include Avios and cash components, will see an increase. Reward Flights are flights booked using Avios points.

The price hike will apply to all British Airways flights and its partner airlines. British Airways attributed the price adjustments to rising Air Passenger Duty, third-party charges, and ongoing inflation.

British Airways provided examples of the price changes on its website. For instance, an off-peak return trip from London to New York currently requires a specific amount of Avios points. However, starting December 15, travelers can anticipate an increase of up to 14,000 Avios for this route.

Another example given by British Airways is for an off-peak each-way flight from London to Geneva, showcasing the upcoming price adjustments.

British Airways notified its customers of these changes via an email on December 3. The airline mentioned that factors like Air Passenger Duty, increased third-party charges, market conditions, and inflation compelled the adjustment in prices. The notification aimed to give customers ample time to plan ahead.

For individuals with existing bookings who wish to make changes, British Airways stated that if the flight change occurs before December 15, the current rates will apply. Changes made after December 15 within the same seasonality and destination will not incur an additional Avios charge.
