“Boxing Legend Ricky Hatton Mourned by Jon Thaxton”

Jon Thaxton has expressed his condolences to Ricky Hatton, following the tragic passing of the renowned British boxing icon at his residence. The confirmation of Hatton’s demise was provided by the Greater Manchester Police, who responded to the incident at Hatton’s home in Hyde.

A representative from the police force stated that they were alerted by a member of the public to the discovery of the body of a 46-year-old man at a specific location in Tameside. The authorities have indicated that there are currently no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

In the aftermath of Hatton’s death, several of his close acquaintances, including Thaxton, have shared heartfelt tributes to the legendary boxer known as ‘the Hitman’. Thaxton reminisced about his memorable clash with Hatton at the Wembley Conference Centre in 2000, where he put up a spirited fight for the British light-welterweight title.

Reflecting on their bout during a BBC Radio Norfolk interview, Thaxton praised Hatton as the people’s champion, emphasizing the mutual respect that developed between them after their intense match. Thaxton acknowledged the impact of the fight on his career, despite not delivering his best performance.

As a former light-welterweight and welterweight world champion, Hatton faced formidable opponents throughout his career, with notable encounters against boxing greats like Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. Thaxton’s promoter highlighted the belief that Thaxton posed a significant challenge to Hatton in the ring, earning respect from the boxing community.

Thaxton himself achieved success in boxing by clinching the WBF lightweight title in 2005 before retiring with a commendable record. Despite their competitive history, a strong bond formed between Hatton and Thaxton over the years, with Hatton attending Thaxton’s retirement celebration in 2010.

Graham Everett, Thaxton’s former coach, fondly recalled Hatton’s presence at the retirement event, emphasizing Hatton’s support and jovial nature. Hatton’s family also issued a touching tribute to their beloved Richard, portraying him as not just a boxing champion but a loving family member and friend who left a lasting legacy of humility and sportsmanship.

The family expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested privacy as they cope with their loss. They acknowledged the enduring impact of Richard’s character and achievements, pledging to carry on his legacy both in boxing and as a remarkable individual. The Hatton Family concluded their statement with heartfelt appreciation for the love and respect shown towards Richard.
