Thousands of households may qualify for £300 in assistance with energy bills this winter. Blackpool Council is providing this energy credit through its Household Support Fund to eligible households. The amount of support varies among local authorities and can include energy assistance, supermarket vouchers, or cash grants.
Eligible households in Blackpool with one or two individuals, including children, may receive £200 in energy support. Qualifying households with three or more individuals, including children, could receive £300. To access this support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in paying their bills, along with submitting recent bank statements for all household members.
Applicants are not required to be receiving Universal Credit or other benefits to apply for this fund. However, only one award can be claimed within a 12-month period. The payment is directly made to the energy provider and will appear as a credit on the bill or pre-payment meter. Interested individuals can apply through the Blackpool Council website.
For residents outside Blackpool, it is advisable to check with the local council regarding support available through the Household Support Fund. Various councils, such as Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and City of York Council, are also offering financial assistance to eligible residents during the winter months. Portsmouth City Council, for instance, is providing £150 to single-person households and £200 to couples or families meeting specific income criteria.
Residents in need of support are encouraged to explore the options available in their respective areas to alleviate the burden of energy costs during the winter season.
