A young woman sustained severe injuries when a sex toy she had inside her body was pulled through her during an MRI scan. The 22-year-old had inserted a “butt plug” before the scan, mistaking it for being entirely silicone. However, the toy contained metal, which reacted dangerously with the MRI machine, causing it to be pulled through her rectum and into her body. The incident prompted warnings against wearing metal objects during such scans.
A social media user named DreadPirateZero shared an image online, cautioning against wearing butt plugs to MRI appointments. The post claimed the toy had been dragged through the patient’s body into their chest cavity, resulting in major injuries.
MRI scanners use powerful magnets to create detailed internal images for diagnosis and treatment planning. Prior to an MRI, radiographers typically check for any metal objects on patients.
The woman had not informed the hospital in the US about the sex toy inside her, possibly due to her belief that it did not contain metal.
A report by the US Department of Health and Human Services detailed the incident, stating that the patient did not disclose the presence of the butt plug before the MRI, leading to the distressing situation.
This case is one of several serious accidents involving MRI scans in recent years. In a separate incident, a man unintentionally discharged a gun inside an MRI room due to the magnetic field. Another tragic incident resulted in the death of Keith McAllister, who was fatally injured after being pulled into an MRI machine by his necklace.
Adrienne Jones-McAllister, Keith’s wife, recounted the tragic event, revealing how her husband was allowed into the MRI room wearing a heavy chain, leading to the fatal accident.
During MRI scans, all individuals are instructed to remove jewellery and piercings due to the machine’s strong magnetic fields. However, in Keith’s case, he was allowed in with a weight-training chain, which ultimately caused his death.
The heartbroken wife described the harrowing moment when the machine pulled her husband in, leading to a series of heart attacks and his untimely demise.
