British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. Joshua arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday evening and was then transported to his residence for further recovery, according to reports from The Sun.
The funeral for his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London tomorrow, with a ‘janaza prayer service’ being organized for the departed friends, inviting close family and friends.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, as concerns have been raised about potential disruptions if he were to be present. Joshua narrowly escaped the fatal crash by switching seats just before the journey that tragically ended the lives of his friends, with Joshua sustaining minor injuries and being hospitalized.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. His lawyer, Olalekan Abiodun, stated that the incident was an accident and that the brakes allegedly failed. The journey started in Lagos, where Joshua initially sat in the front seat but later moved to the back at the driver’s request due to visibility issues.
Kayode, aged 46, was behind the wheel of a black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua and his companions when the collision occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. After being released from the hospital in Lagos, Kayode was taken to Abeokuta for further questioning and provided an official statement about the events leading up to the crash. The trial for his case has been postponed until January 20.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Joshua paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home in Lagos before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom. Joshua is now focusing on his recovery at his home in Nigeria.
