“Amazon’s Freevee Streaming App Shuts Down; Content Moves to Prime Video”

A popular streaming app that previously provided free access to a diverse range of content has officially shut down, adding to the Monday blues. Amazon’s Freevee platform, known for its ad-supported content and appeal to those avoiding monthly subscription fees, has transitioned its extensive content library to Prime Video starting September 1. Users previously enjoying shows like Jury Duty, Alex Rider, Bosch: Legacy, and Hell’s Kitchen USA without cost will now need to switch to the Prime Video app and log in with their Amazon account.

Freevee customers have been informed through a pop-up message within the app that Prime Video is now the exclusive platform for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV. While the Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025, users are encouraged to continue their viewing experience on Prime Video for free, without the need for a subscription. Although no additional charges will apply, users may encounter boxsets and movies that require a Prime subscription or a one-time payment.

This transition may serve as an incentive for Freevee users to explore Prime Video’s offerings or consider movie rentals. Existing Prime Video account holders can benefit from a consolidated viewing experience within a single app, eliminating the need to switch between Freevee and Prime Video for content browsing.
