“Fire Incident at JFK Airport: Black Smoke Seen at Terminal 8”

Black smoke was seen rising from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York following a fire incident in the airside section of the facility. Images on social media captured a plume of black smoke near Terminal 8, with emergency responders visible at the scene.

A video clip depicted thick black smoke emerging from behind a security fence at the airport, resulting from a vehicle fire around 7:25am local time. The fire, involving an American Airlines tow truck, was promptly extinguished by the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team, as confirmed by an airport spokesperson.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or disruptions reported due to the incident. The airport spokesperson detailed the event at Terminal 8, emphasizing the swift response that contained the fire without affecting airport operations.

The social media posts timestamped at 7:46am Eastern Standard Time indicated the incident occurred around 12:46pm GMT. While the cause of the fire remains unknown, online footage suggests the involvement of a vehicle, possibly an emergency services car, near some gates.

Videos from the Citizen app displayed plumes of black smoke rising from the airport area. John F. Kennedy International Airport has been approached for further comments on the situation.
