A heart specialist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who previously treated former Vice President Dick Cheney, has called on Congress to examine President Donald Trump’s mental capacity. Dr. Reiner raised concerns based on public statements and communications from Trump. This appeal follows Trump’s recent letter to European leaders discussing America’s foreign policy objectives.
In the letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump linked his Nobel Peace Prize aspirations to his stance on Greenland. Trump expressed disappointment in not receiving the prize and emphasized prioritizing the interests of the United States over peace efforts. He argued for the importance of Greenland’s annexation for global security, claiming his contributions to NATO warrant support from the alliance.
Dr. Reiner responded to Trump’s letter, highlighting it as a cause for concern. He called for a bipartisan inquiry into the president’s fitness for office, especially considering Trump’s distribution of the letter to European nations. The doctor also criticized Trump’s actions regarding Senator Bill Cassidy and RFK Jr., expressing doubts about Trump’s priorities.
Concerns about Trump’s health and fitness for office are not new. Previously, Dr. Reiner questioned Trump’s understanding of medical concepts, particularly his use of aspirin. Despite Trump’s claims of good health, Dr. Reiner and others have raised doubts, contrasting with Navy Capt Sean Barbabella’s reports of normal scans.
Trump’s consistent assertions of good health have been met with skepticism from critics like Dr. Reiner, who continue to question his ability to govern effectively.
