Former US President Donald Trump has humorously referred to himself as the “acting President of Venezuela” by sharing a spoofed Wikipedia page on his social media platform.
The post on Truth Social portrays Trump as the ‘incumbent’ of Venezuela starting January 2026, following the arrest of Nicolas Maduro, seemingly taking a jab at Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez.
Maduro’s ex-vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, assumed office recently after US forces apprehended Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on January 3, escorting them to New York to face narco-terrorism charges. Maduro maintains his innocence and claims rightful leadership of Venezuela.
In the fabricated Wikipedia entry by Trump, his official portrait from his US presidency inauguration is featured, labeling him as the “acting President of Venezuela” alongside his role as the US President.
The Trump administration has announced its intention to oversee Venezuela until stability is restored for self-governance, without specifying a timeline. Critics suggest Trump’s interest in Venezuela is linked to its resources, as evidenced by his meetings with oil company executives to influence oil distribution.
Venezuela, possessing the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves, produces approximately one million barrels daily, significantly lower than the US’s average daily production of 13.9 million barrels in October.
The White House justifies its Venezuela intervention in economic terms, with Trump seizing Venezuelan oil tankers, assuming control of 30 to 50 million barrels of sanctioned crude, and planning indefinite global sales control.
Rodriguez, Venezuela’s acting president, has resisted Trump’s pressures, warning her of dire consequences if she does not comply with US demands to align Venezuela with American energy interests, including granting access to US firms.
In a statement to government officials, Rodriguez asserted her determination is guided by faith, stating, “My fate is not dictated by threats, but by divine will.”
