“Dismembered Bodies Found in Plastic Bags in Acapulco”

Police in Mexico were shocked to find the dismembered remains of three men inside six plastic bags dumped in a commercial complex in the Acapulco Diamante region of Guerrero state. Authorities were alerted by anonymous tips about the suspicious bags behind the La Isla complex on January 9. Upon investigation later that evening, it was confirmed that the bags contained the heads and limbs of the victims, adding to the grim history of such discoveries in Guerrero.

The bodies were transported to a morgue in El Quemado, but as of yet, none of the victims have been identified. This recent incident follows a similar discovery in Acapulco in April 2025 when federal investigators found plastic bags containing the remains of another victim. The National Guard, State Police, Navy, and State Attorney General’s forensic specialists were involved in collecting the bags, which held the victim’s head, arms, and legs.

Reports indicated that a threatening note, possibly from an unidentified criminal group, was found near the body. In a separate incident, the bodies of 11 victims were found in Tecoanapa municipality following clashes between rival gangs. Previous instances of decapitations have been linked to the “La Barredora” gang, known to operate in Guerrero. The gang has left threatening notes at crime scenes, including one scene with six severed heads discovered in the central Mexican states of Puebla and Tlaxcala.

Despite the violence and criminal activities, Guerrero remains one of the states in Mexico with high homicide rates, mostly associated with drug trafficking. The state has been advised against non-essential travel due to safety concerns. In 2024, the situation in Guerrero was so severe that Catholic bishops intervened to mediate a truce between rival cartels in an effort to reduce violence.
