Morrisons has reduced the price of 1L Baileys to £11 in preparation for the upcoming festive season. This discount of £3 from the usual price of £14 is available until Sunday, November 2 in England and Wales, with no loyalty card required for the lower price.
Compared to other retailers, Asda currently sells the same size Baileys for £13.98, Sainsbury’s for £22 (£14 with a Nectar card), and Tesco for £22.50 (£14 with a Clubcard). Last year, Morrisons offered Baileys for £8.50, but customers had to spend £45 and be a Morrisons More member to access the deal.
In related news, Morrisons is planning to convert numerous corner shops into Morrisons-branded convenience stores. The supermarket aims to open 250 new Morrisons Daily stores next year by allowing corner shop owners to transform their businesses into Morrisons franchises, particularly in areas where Morrisons has limited presence.
This strategic move signifies a significant acceleration of Morrisons’ expansion plans, with approximately 160 convenience stores expected to open this year. A Morrisons spokesperson mentioned their ambition to bring Morrisons Daily stores to more customers across the UK through a franchise model for rapid store additions in a cost-effective manner.
Simultaneously, Morrisons is closing 103 stores, cafes, florists, and pharmacies this year. The supermarket has already shut down 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores as part of a larger restructuring effort. Additionally, more than 50 cafes, 13 florists, four pharmacies, 18 Market Kitchens, 35 meat counters, and 35 fish counters are expected to close permanently as part of a cost-effectiveness review.
Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, acknowledged the impact these changes would have on employees, emphasizing the company’s commitment to working with third parties to provide specialized offerings in affected stores.
