Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Accuses Lagos Hospital

Celebrated writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused a hospital of neglecting her one-year-old son, who passed away after a brief illness. Adichie’s representatives confirmed the tragic death of her son, Nkanu Nnamdi, expressing deep devastation on behalf of Adichie and her partner, Dr. Ivara Esege.

In a public statement, Adichie blamed Euracare Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, for her son’s death. She alleged that a medical incident at the hospital led to the tragic outcome despite plans for his medical evacuation to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Adichie claimed that her son was not adequately monitored after receiving a sedative during a medical procedure, leading to severe consequences. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the one-year-old ultimately passed away at the hospital’s intensive care unit due to complications.

Euracare Hospital refuted the allegations of negligence, emphasizing its reputation for providing high-quality medical care with an experienced clinical team. The hospital extended its condolences to Adichie and her family while clarifying the circumstances surrounding the patient’s treatment and subsequent passing.

The hospital assured that they followed established medical protocols and collaborated with external medical teams to provide necessary care. They acknowledged the family’s grief and initiated an investigation to ensure transparency and adherence to clinical standards. The hospital expressed continued support for the grieving family during this difficult time, emphasizing their commitment to patient safety and compassionate care.
