A former Russian Prime Minister has remarked that the commitment of the UK and France to deploy troops in Ukraine has had a significant impact and left Vladimir Putin uncertain of his next steps.
Mikhail Kasyanov highlighted that the recent actions of the coalition of willing nations have put the Russian leader in a dilemma. This development followed statements by Keir Starmer indicating that military facilities would be established in Ukraine by the UK and France in the event of a peace agreement.
Kasyanov emphasized that Putin will need to adjust his approach in response to these recent changes. He noted that the coalition’s decision to prioritize security guarantees for Ukraine and align with the United States has left Putin at a loss on how to proceed.
The former Prime Minister also mentioned the reinforcement of transatlantic unity through agreements made in Paris, which have put pressure on Putin to reconsider his stance.
In a joint declaration signed in Paris, the UK, France, and Ukraine agreed to construct protected facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine’s defense efforts post-ceasefire.

The plans for ensuring peace include the deployment of a multinational force in Ukraine led by European nations, with potential involvement from non-European countries, including the US.
The declaration also outlines support for a US-led ceasefire monitoring mechanism, long-term backing for the Ukrainian military, and assistance for Kyiv in the event of future Russian hostilities.
