Rubio to Meet Danish Officials over Greenland Deal

Marco Rubio, the United States Secretary of State, is scheduled to hold discussions with Danish representatives regarding President Donald Trump’s proposed acquisition of Greenland. Rubio confirmed the meeting during an afternoon press briefing.

The White House has officially acknowledged Trump’s interest in obtaining control of Greenland before the end of his term. While Trump initially prefers a purchase agreement with Denmark, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that military action is a potential option if Denmark rejects the offer.

Leavitt emphasized that President Trump views acquiring Greenland as crucial for national security and to strengthen U.S. dominance in the Arctic region. Trump and his advisors are exploring various strategies to achieve this foreign policy objective, including the possible deployment of the U.S. military.

Amid criticism from European leaders, particularly Denmark cautioning against jeopardizing the NATO alliance, Trump defended his pursuit of Greenland on the social media platform Truth Social. In response to concerns raised by European nations, Trump expressed doubts about NATO’s support in critical situations. However, he omitted mentioning NATO’s historical solidarity with the U.S. post-9/11.

In his online statement, Trump also criticized Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Prize, suggesting that countries like China and Russia would disregard NATO without U.S. involvement. Despite his reservations about NATO’s commitment, Trump pledged unwavering support for the alliance.
