Newly released video footage captures the moment when President Donald Trump dozed off during a significant policy announcement that will impact millions of children. The 79-year-old US leader was seen closing his eyes and even appearing to snore during a signing event in the Oval Office on the previous day.
Trump, surrounded by legislators, dairy farmers, and their children at the White House, signed a bill that permits school cafeterias to offer whole and 2% milk. As officials began praising the benefits of higher-fat milk, Trump took a brief nap for about 17 seconds before reawakening when the volume of a speaker’s voice increased.
The bill signed by Trump overturned restrictions from the Obama era on the availability of higher-fat milk options, with the President expressing his support for whole milk regardless of political affiliations. The legislation also allows schools to provide nondairy milk meeting milk’s nutritional standards and mandates schools to offer a nondairy alternative upon parental request for dietary restrictions.
Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, a proponent of including whole milk in school menus, hailed the new law as a much-needed change in school nutrition policy. The updated regulations will affect around 30 million students enrolled in the National School Lunch Program.
Despite accusations of dozing off during meetings, Trump has denied such claims, attributing his closed eyes to moments of rest or blinking. Concerns about Trump’s health persist, with reports of him undergoing various tests, including cognitive assessments. Additionally, observations of him using makeup to conceal hand bruises have been linked to his active handshake engagements, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
