“Putin’s Oreshnik Missile Strikes Ukraine at 8,000mph”

Vladimir Putin has deployed the Oreshnik missile, capable of reaching speeds of 8,000mph, in a series of strikes on Ukraine. The attack targeted Europe’s largest underground gas storage facility near Lviv, approximately 40 miles from NATO and EU borders. The missile was launched from Russia’s Astrakhan region and exploded over Lviv in less than 15 minutes. Speculation arose online about the use of a ballistic weapon similar to Oreshnik due to its remarkable speed.

The Russian defense ministry confirmed the use of the Oreshnik missile system in response to an alleged Ukrainian attempt to strike Putin’s residence in Novgorod region. However, Western intelligence and Ukraine denied such an attack. The strike hit key targets in Ukraine, including drone production facilities and energy infrastructure supporting the military-industrial complex.

Ukraine’s foreign minister condemned Russia’s actions as a serious threat to European security and a challenge for the transatlantic community. He emphasized that the strike near the EU and NATO borders was unjustifiable and denounced Russia’s use of false pretexts for its aggressive actions. This marks the second known deployment of the Oreshnik system, after an incident in Dnipro in 2024.

The Oreshnik system, described as “unstoppable,” is now stationed near Ukraine and NATO territories in Belarus. The recent strike originated from the Kapustin Yar missile test range in Astrakhan region, covering a range of 900 miles in possibly under seven minutes. The destructive power of the explosions was felt across the region, showcasing the intensity of the attack.

The damage inflicted on the Stryi gas storage facility remains uncertain, posing potential risks to Ukrainian supplies, particularly during winter. Putin’s aggressive actions signal a disregard for calls for peace and escalation of the conflict. The night of attacks included strikes on Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih, resulting in civilian casualties and destruction of residential areas.

Putin’s refusal to heed warnings for peace settlement highlights the ongoing brutality of the conflict. The escalation of attacks on residential areas and critical infrastructure underscores the grim reality faced by Ukrainians. Despite the atomic capability of the Oreshnik missile, there is no evidence to suggest the recent strike was nuclear. Putin’s aggressive tactics aim to instill fear and demonstrate the missile’s devastating power.
