A new option has emerged for households seeking TV access without ongoing fees. Introduced in 2024, Freely initially provided live channel access via broadband on select new televisions. However, in the last 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely. Previously, viewers had to purchase a new TV to access live and on-demand content through the platform.
Now, Manhattan’s technology team has unveiled the Aero 4K set-top box, enabling any existing TV to enjoy Freely services. Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K offers over 60 live channels and on-demand content without subscription charges. It also features voice search, viewing suggestions, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live shows. Users with subscriptions to services like Disney+ and Netflix can access these apps as well.
Currys is the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which has quickly sold out. Interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website for restock alerts, with other retailers like Amazon and John Lewis expected to carry the device soon. Once available, the Aero 4K will compete with products like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, which deliver shows, sports, and movies over the internet without the need for traditional antennas or dishes.
Transitioning to streaming offers benefits such as simplified installation processes without requiring technician visits and regular software updates. Freely has reported a user base exceeding one million, indicating a growing trend of shifting from conventional viewing methods to streaming services.
