A video allegedly capturing the moment a man was shot in the leg by an ICE officer and then cried out for help has been circulating online following a recent troubling anti-immigration incident. The Department for Homeland Security (DHS) and City of Minneapolis have confirmed that a man, reportedly a Venezuelan immigrant according to DHS, was shot in the leg by an ICE agent after a traffic stop. This event, occurring shortly after the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a mother of three, has led to protests in Minnesota’s largest city.
The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was swiftly taken to a hospital after the incident and can be heard screaming for assistance in a newly posted online video clip. The footage reveals individuals inside a residence speaking urgently in Spanish, possibly contacting 911, claiming that ICE agents pursued the injured man for about half an hour before entering his home.
Allegations suggest that the agent attempted to shoot the man as he ran towards the house and even fired in the direction of the property while children were present inside. Distressed voices in the video can be heard pleading for help, emphasizing the presence of children and a family in the home during the incident.
According to a statement by the DHS, the man, who was believed to be in the US illegally from Venezuela and was allegedly released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022, tried to evade a targeted traffic stop, leading to the shooting. The DHS spokesperson stated that the ICE agent resorted to firing in self-defense as he felt threatened by three individuals ambushing him.
After the shooting, the man and two others reportedly sought refuge in an apartment building before being taken to the hospital. The man’s injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening, and he is currently receiving treatment. The incident has sparked protests and reignited calls for ICE to depart from Minnesota.
