Trump Criticizes Epstein Files Release as “Terrible”

US President Donald Trump criticized the recent release of Jeffrey Epstein files as “a terrible thing.” He defended Bill Clinton and other figures featured in the photos, stating that many celebrities innocently crossed paths with Epstein over the years. Despite being mentioned in the files, Trump insisted that the majority of interactions were innocent. Epstein, a convicted child sex offender, had connections with numerous high-profile individuals, including Clinton, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, and Lord Mandelson, as seen in the thousands of recently published photographs.

In response to the release, Trump expressed his dismay, suggesting that the focus on Epstein was an attempt to detract from the Republican Party’s success. He commended Clinton, emphasizing their positive relationship and downplaying any implications from their past interactions with Epstein. Trump attributed the push for the file release to Congressional Democrats but acknowledged Epstein’s extensive connections in the 1990s and 2000s.

The data dump was prompted by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s commitment to protecting Epstein’s victims, leading to the forthcoming release of hundreds of thousands of documents. The US Department of Justice was mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act to disclose all related investigation files by Friday midnight.

Epstein, the disgraced financier, was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, with his death ruled a suicide. The incident was marred by revelations that the assigned guards had fallen asleep and falsified records, compounded by malfunctioning or broken surveillance cameras in the area.
