Wetherspoon has revealed its intention to launch a new pub at a university location. The renowned pub chain will introduce Joe’s at the University of Birmingham through a collaborative effort with the Guild of Students. Named after the university’s iconic clock tower, Joe’s Bar will maintain its management by the Guild of Students.
Scheduled to open in Easter 2026 after a substantial renovation, the new establishment will offer the complete Wetherspoon food and beverage selection, including special weekly deals like the Thursday Curry Club. Wetherspoon, with a network of nearly 800 pubs nationwide, inaugurated its first university pub at Hull University in 2022.
John Hutson, the CEO of Wetherspoon, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Guild of Students, anticipating a prosperous future for Joe’s Bar. The University of Birmingham Guild of Students President, Antonia Listrat, highlighted the benefits students will gain from the partnership, emphasizing job opportunities and reinvestment into student support activities.
Additionally, Wetherspoon is set to unveil six more new pubs by mid-January. This announcement follows the recent launch of Wetherspoon’s Christmas menu, featuring the popular affordable turkey dinner, including various traditional accompaniments.
Although the average price for the turkey feast is now £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, slight variations may apply based on the pub’s location. The Christmas menu will be accessible until December 31, offering customers a festive dining experience. Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s chairman, affirmed the company’s commitment to minimizing price hikes despite the industry’s challenges.
In response to potential tax increases affecting prices, Martin assured that Wetherspoon would strive to maintain competitive pricing for its customers. The focus remains on providing value and quality amid evolving market conditions.
