“500-Pound Black Bear Evicted from LA Property by BEAR League”

A large black bear, known as Yellow 2120, had taken up residence beneath a Los Angeles property for over a month, causing damage to gas lines and bricks. Efforts by state wildlife officials using air horns and paintball guns were unsuccessful in removing the bear. Subsequently, homeowner Ken Johnson sought assistance from the BEAR League, a California-based organization specializing in coexisting with bears.

BEAR League’s experienced responders managed to coax the 500-pound bear out from under the house by strategically positioning themselves behind the animal. They then installed an electric shock mat at the entrance to deter the bear from returning. Johnson, who had endured financial setbacks due to a previous wildfire, expressed relief at the successful eviction and the prospect of repairing the property.

Johnson had faced challenges and frustration in attempting various methods to remove the bear independently. He acknowledged feeling defeated by the situation and emphasized the unsettling presence of the bear. Despite the eviction, the bear briefly returned before ultimately moving on.

The homeowner’s determination to resolve the bear intrusion highlighted the complexities of wildlife encounters in residential areas and the importance of seeking expert assistance for safe and effective removal.
