Which? has released its top current account providers and is encouraging millions of customers to consider switching. They conducted a thorough analysis of various aspects such as fees, overdrafts, charges, and benefits. Additionally, feedback from over 6,600 customers was gathered to assess their satisfaction levels with their current accounts.
Six providers received the Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) status, including Chase, Danske Bank, First Direct, Monzo, Nationwide, and Starling. Starling emerged as the top performer with an impressive customer score of 86% and secured its seventh WRP badge. It received a five-star rating for both online and mobile banking and four stars for customer service.
Monzo achieved an 85% customer score, with five stars for mobile banking ease and four stars for overall customer service. First Direct, with an 84% customer score, has been the longest-running current account WRP, holding the title for over a decade.
Nationwide also scored 84%, receiving five stars for online banking and four stars for in-branch service. Chase, a digital bank owned by JPMorgan, attained an 82% customer score, excelling in categories like mobile app functionality and customer service.
Danske Bank received an 80% customer score, with favorable ratings in areas like overall customer service and online banking. Allied Irish Bank and Revolut, despite scoring 85% and 83% respectively, did not secure WRP status due to specific operational reasons.
The survey revealed that nearly 37% of current account holders have stayed loyal to the same provider for over 20 years, despite the introduction of new accounts by various banks. TSB ranked lowest with a customer score of 67%, while Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax followed closely with 71%.
Sam Richardson, Deputy Editor of Which? Money, emphasized the importance of switching to better providers to maximize benefits. Richardson highlighted the ease of the switching process, ensuring a seamless transition for customers.
Representatives from TSB and Virgin Money expressed their commitment to enhancing customer service and digital banking offerings. They emphasized their dedication to improving services and meeting customer needs effectively.
The Mirror reached out to Santander and Halifax for comments on the rankings and survey results.
