An 11-year-old girl is currently in critical condition at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland after being shot in the head by an unknown assailant while sitting in her father’s vehicle.
The incident occurred around 12:40 pm on Monday in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, was seated in the front passenger seat when gunfire erupted unexpectedly.
Authorities have identified the shooter as Ryan Hardy, who allegedly fired at innocent bystanders without warning, resulting in a bullet piercing the car and striking the child’s head. The victim’s father, whose name has not been revealed for safety reasons, expressed anguish over the traumatic event, noting that his daughter’s initial words post-injury were heartbreaking.
The suspect, 23-year-old Ryan Hardy, is considered armed and dangerous, as per the Antioch Police Department. Law enforcement officials are urging the public not to approach him and to report any information on his whereabouts immediately.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by relatives of the family aims to raise funds for their relocation from Antioch, citing safety concerns following the shooting. The family intends to leave the area permanently, leaving behind their residence, jobs, and community in the process.
The fundraiser highlights the extensive medical treatment, therapy, and emotional recovery needed for the girl’s rehabilitation, emphasizing the uncertainty of her future functionality. Donations have surpassed $7,800, providing financial support for relocation expenses, lost income, emergency living costs, and ongoing medical requirements.
