A man from Louisiana, Larry Darby, has been convicted of multiple charges after sexually assaulting a family member over several years, resulting in a pregnancy. The victim, who was 12 years old when the abuse started in 2003, endured severe injuries, including the loss of teeth and permanent scars on her neck, as a result of the assaults.
DNA evidence confirmed Darby as the father of the victim’s child, born as a result of the abuse. The case, initially investigated in 2005, was reopened due to additional evidence surfacing. Darby was found guilty of aggravated rape, aggravated incest, and sexual battery, facing a mandatory life sentence and additional years in prison for each charge.
The sentencing for Darby is scheduled for January 27. The District Attorney emphasized the importance of justice for the victim and applauded her courage in coming forward to testify against Darby. The conviction also shed light on a past history of abuse by Darby, who had previously assaulted a stepchild in 2022.
Darby’s convictions were a result of the victim’s bravery in sharing her story and the jury’s careful review of the evidence presented. The case serves as a reminder of the significance of supporting survivors of abuse and ensuring appropriate responses to such disclosures.
