“Disneyland Monorail Evacuation Amid Power Failure”

A large-scale evacuation was carried out on the Disneyland Monorail as individuals had to disembark from the tracks due to a power failure.

Approximately 60 individuals were removed from the monorail after it came to a halt near the Space Mountain attraction. The Anaheim police reported that emergency personnel utilized ladders to safely assist the passengers down, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

An Anaheim Fire Department fire engine was positioned beneath the monorail track, with its ladder fully extended toward the train. Fire department members carefully guided the passengers along the narrow walkway to ensure their safety.

According to a spokesperson for Disneyland Resorts, the monorail experienced a power loss on Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. A guest who was stuck on the ride mentioned to KTLA that the vehicle lost power around 3:30pm.

The Disneyland monorail operates on a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, with trains running every 10 minutes. The round-trip journey lasts 13 minutes, providing park visitors with views of popular areas such as Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.

Describing the monorail, the Disneyland website states: “The Disneyland Monorail was the first transportation system of its kind in America. The current iteration combines the sleek design of the 1959 classic with modern technologies and subtle design updates, giving a retro-futuristic appearance and contemporary touch to the timeless Disneyland icon.”

Initially conceived as an attraction, the monorail transitioned into a practical transportation system by 1961, ferrying guests to and from the nearby Disneyland Hotel. Following numerous upgrades over the years, the park’s current fleet of train cars commenced operations for attendees between 2008 and 2009.

In a separate incident, another monorail malfunction occurred in November 2025 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The Monorail Silver encountered an electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort, leading to smoke emanating between two train cabins.

Emergency crews promptly responded to the malfunction, extinguishing the fire and evacuating passengers from the suspended track. The occurrence resulted in a temporary bottleneck as guests had to utilize alternative transportation methods, including buses, boats, and ferries.
