“Trump Claims 2020 Election ‘Rigged,’ Calls for Cancellation”

Former President Donald Trump made unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 presidential election being “rigged” while addressing House Republicans on the fifth anniversary of the Capitol attack. Trump criticized Democrats, particularly targeting former President Barack Obama, and suggested that the election should be canceled due to alleged fraud.

During his speech, Trump also questioned President Joe Biden’s awareness of the election process, insisting that the election was manipulated. He advocated for voter ID laws, implying that those against such laws are involved in deceitful activities.

The White House previously raised concerns about the vote-by-mail system in certain states, mentioning a voter fraud case in California. Despite these claims, experts note that rigging an election would necessitate extensive illegal collaboration by election officials statewide.

Trump’s baseless assertions of voter fraud have been linked to the Capitol riot, resulting in fatalities. In a wide-ranging address, he discussed various topics like crime, border security, tax policies, healthcare, and transgender athlete participation in sports.

Trump’s remarks coincided with his administration’s controversial detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Senate briefings on the operation are scheduled for Wednesday morning. In response, Democratic lawmakers plan a congressional hearing to address ongoing election security threats and review Trump’s pardons for individuals involved in the Capitol attack.
