“Man Convicted After Brutal Attack on Mother of His Children”

A man brutally attacked the mother of his children in her own home before trying to clean up the scene as police were on their way. Albaro Chacon, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national residing in Suffolk County, New York, was convicted of attempted assault, assault, tampering with evidence, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child after assaulting the woman in the Brentwood neighborhood. The incident occurred when the woman woke up to find Chacon standing over her with a knife, threatening her life.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, Chacon proceeded to target the woman with the knife, resulting in stab wounds to her arms as she defended herself. During the attack, the woman’s two-year-old niece was also in the room, and she shielded the child from harm before fleeing the house and seeking help from a passing motorist to call 911. The woman later discovered that their two children, aged six and five, had been left inside their car.

As the woman sought assistance from authorities, Chacon initially followed her outside but was persuaded by the young boy to return indoors. The woman reported that upon returning to the house, she noticed a strong smell of bleach, and the bed sheets from the scene of the attack had been removed. Police arrived soon after and apprehended Chacon at the location.

The victim was taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of her arm injuries. Chacon was eventually found guilty on six charges, including endangering the welfare of a child. He was convicted of first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, leading to a 15 to 17-year prison sentence handed down by a New York judge.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A Tierney expressed satisfaction with the verdict, acknowledging the trauma experienced by the victim and her children due to the domestic violence incident. He emphasized the long-lasting impact such violence can have on children and reiterated the importance of recognizing and addressing the harm caused by such acts.
