Smart technology is increasingly infiltrating households through self-cleaning vacuums, refrigerators capable of suggesting recipes based on their contents, and heating systems that can be activated remotely. While these advancements may seem futuristic and intimidating to those unfamiliar with Wi-Fi-connected devices, not everyone is embracing the idea of Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolutionizing daily chores.
Despite some skepticism, Samsung is actively advancing its technology offerings, aiming to simplify the transition to smart home solutions with its SmartThings app. The company believes that investing in smart home devices can streamline household tasks and lead to savings on utility bills.
Deborah Honig, Chief Customer Officer at Samsung UK & Ireland, emphasized that the focus is on practical conveniences rather than creating a sci-fi home environment. Samsung’s range of smart appliances includes features like washing machines that automatically adjust water levels and heating based on the laundry load.
Recently unveiled at the IFA technology show are new devices such as the Bespoke AI Dishwasher, which tailors cleaning cycles to the dish dirtiness level and speeds up drying by releasing steam. These AI-powered products are designed to reduce costs and can sync with energy providers like British Gas to optimize usage during off-peak hours.
Samsung’s smart features are tailored to adapt to users’ lifestyles, offering functions like laundry scheduling through the SmartThings app. With rising energy costs, families are increasingly conscious of their consumption patterns, and Samsung’s AI solutions provide real-time energy monitoring and cost estimates to help users make informed decisions.
While premium smart appliances may come at a price, there are affordable entry points like energy-monitoring smart plugs or smart lighting that promote energy efficiency. Honig highlighted that even without smart appliances, utilizing smart plugs with the SmartThings app can provide insights into energy usage, contributing to overall peace of mind.
As technology continues to evolve, Samsung is committed to integrating AI into everyday home tasks to enhance efficiency and cost savings for consumers.
