Man Shot 13 Times After Daring Assailant

A man in Minneapolis was tragically killed after being shot 13 times by an assailant he challenged to shoot him. The suspect, identified as Tyrone de Shun Childs Jr, allegedly shot 35-year-old Jermaine Jabaar Typray Baker at close range and then proceeded to search through the victim’s belongings as he lay on the ground. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 27 on Hennepin Avenue.

Reportedly, Childs attempted to rob Baker, who defiantly responded by daring Childs to shoot him. Childs then fired 13 shots, some while Baker was already down, before casually walking away and entering a woman’s residence with whom he shares a child.

Crystal Henry-Smith, Baker’s mother, expressed a desire for justice, as Childs faces charges of second-degree murder. Minneapolis police mentioned a second individual was also injured in the incident, although details about this person were not provided.

Authorities detailed that Childs is charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Surveillance footage captured the entire crime, showing Childs rummaging through Baker’s possessions after the shooting before changing clothes and leaving in a vehicle.

In a separate incident, Minneapolis witnessed a violent episode at a homeless camp where eight people were wounded, four critically, on September 15. Prior to this, another shooting occurred near a transit station, injuring five individuals.

The city has been plagued by a series of violent events, including the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as a state lawmaker and his wife on the same day in June. Additionally, a mass shooting at a Minneapolis church resulted in the death of two children and injuries to 21 others in late August.
